Synkroniciti is thrilled to feature “Transits,” a thought-provoking artwork from Slovak artist Mária Mitríková. Comprised of fifty sheets of A4 paper covered with a combination of hand-written letters and gold leaf, this piece is a meditation on the relationship between words and silence. Mária’s work is highly intelligent and elegant and we hope to see more from this talented young artist. She’s also a wonderful writer, as you will see from the text that accompanies “Transits” in the new issue.
Would you like to see Maria’s illuminating work and read about her process? Please purchase our “Transcend” issue, Vol. 3, No. 4, or subscribe here. The issue is now available online as of November 30th.
Mária Mitríková (born 1993) is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Bratislava, Slovakia. After graduating in applied mathematics and working in a corporation, she finally found the courage to pursue an art career. She received her BA at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Studio of Free Printmaking. In her work she deals with spirituality and self-identity. The written word as an artistic element plays a specific role in her work, as does the process of creating the work itself, which often mirrors its content. She likes to work with simple but symbolically charged materials (fresh wood, glass, gold, etc.).
